Description

This flour works great as a direct replacement in recipes for cakes, cookies, brownies, muffins and sweet breads. Add some of your favorite spices to this flour to create delicious coatings for meats and vegetables prior to baking or frying. Our All Purpose Flour is made from NON-GMO sourced ingredients, is free of all 8 major food allergens and includes more whole grain flours. Angel Food Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Sugar Set Aside
  • 1 Cup Better For You Bakery All Purpose Flour
  • 3/4 Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups Egg Whites
  • 1 1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • 3/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tsp Almond Extract Optional

Instructions

  1. Adjust oven rack so cake will cook on lowest rack setting in oven away from heat element and remove extra racks. Preheat oven to 375F. 

  2.  Egg whites must be room temperature. The quickest way to accomplish that is to put eggs in a hot bowl of water for 10 minutes while gathering other ingredients. 

       

  3. Combine the 3/4 cup sugar and BFYB AP flour in bowl and whisk well or sift to combine. Set aside.

  4. Add egg whites, cream of tartar, salt and extracts to mixer bowl. Beat on medium till soft peaks form. 

  5. Turn mixer to high and add ½ cup of sugar a little at a time and beat till stiff peaks form. This will take several minutes.  

  6. Use spatula and gently fold in the flour/sugar mixture a little at a time until incorporated. 

  7. Spoon cake into ungreased 10” two piece tube pan and smooth evenly. Gently cut through batter with a knife back and forth from outside of pan towards center around the pan in a circle to remove air gaps.  

  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and top is not sticky or wet looking. It should spring back when touched.  

  9. Remove from oven, let cool upside down in pan for 45 minutes. When cool run a knife around edge and center of pan gently to get the cake to release then remove from pan. Invert upside down on plate.

Recipe Notes

Note: This cake includes multiple whole grain flours from our All Purpose flour so the height may be a little shorter than usual, but the texture and flavor is outstanding. It’s a better for you product you can be proud to serve and enjoy.
